Russian Ballet Association Student's Certificate Class

The school offers Russian Ballet Association (RBA) Student's Certificate Class.

 

Students are expected to take classes for 1 year to enrol in the examination. The syllabus of the RBA is based on the Vaganova method of classical ballet training, which puts equal attention on head, torso, arms and legs. Not only can students advance their technique in a progressive manner, they can also strengthen their artistry for stage performances.​

Preschool I

Age 3 - 4

Brain development researches revealed that a child’s intelligence and emotional development could be enhanced by the correct stimulations. By introducing classical ballet to toddlers and preschoolers, your child can learn musicality, etiquette, and pantomiming while improving their socialisation skills, sense of direction and self-confidence.

Students learn to articulate and coordinate different body parts to strengthen muscles in the body and develop the sense of balance. Basic concepts of positioning arms and feet will also be introduced. The class also encourages freedom of expression and imagination.

Students learn to articulate and coordinate more body parts to strengthen muscles in the body and develop the sense of balancing. More complex concepts of positioning arms and feet will also be introduced. The class also encourages freedom of expression and imagination.

Preparatory III

Age 8 - 9

Preparatory III level is a continuation of the Vaganova training system. This class builds on the concepts and skills learned in the previous levels, with a focus on developing strength, flexibility, and coordination of different body parts. Students will learn more complex concepts of arm and foot positioning, as well as further explore the freedom of expression and imagination. Floorwork will also be incorporated to help strengthen the body and build a better sense of balance.

Primary

Age 9 - 12

The primary category is the first stage of the Vaganova training method. It is a professional training system. Students will learn basic ballet vocabulary, arms, feet positions and body directions. This group develop students’ strength and flexibility, introducing the basic ballet concepts of arm and leg positions and across the floor to develop balance, rhythm, musicality and coordination. Basic pointe work will be introduced. The class also encourages freedom of expression and imagination. Students at this level focus on building their dance vocabulary and memory of steps, combinations and performance pieces.

Intermediate I

Age 12 - 15

The intermediate category is a progression from the primary category. This level introduces more advanced vocabulary in terms of barre work and centre practice, more complex turns and jumps. Classwork will be more demanding and repetitive - designed to strengthen and build the correct use of muscles in the feet, legs and upper body. Students will practice more pointe work for classical repertoires.

Intermediate II

Age 12 - 15

The intermediate II level builds upon the intermediate I. Complex steps, faster tempos, and challenging choreography will be required. Students must demonstrate control and technique in their movements, as well as mastering more advanced pointe work. Alignment and execution of turns, jumps and leaps must be maintained with clean technique. Classwork will be demanding and repetitive, strengthening and building the correct use of muscles in the feet, legs and upper body.

The Pre-Advanced is a progression from the Intermediate level. This Category will continue more advanced and intensive pointe work. This category will be more focusing on the artistic side, such as the style and character of different repertoires. This level is to prepare students in becoming a professional dancer.

Age 16+

The advanced category prepares students to be a professional dance artist. Advanced and intensive training to prepare for stage performances and competitions in classical and contemporary work. Students will be working with different artists and choreographers to gain experience working in a professional dance company.

Adult Beginner

This category enables adults, who either have prior experience in ballet from their childhood or are simply admirers of the art of ballet to receive regular instruction from experienced teachers in the Vaganova ballet technique.
