Joanne began to play the piano at the age of four whilst studying in Hong Kong, and has won numerous awards at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, including the championship at the grand finals. During her matriculation years, she was selected as finalist in the Rotary Competition for Young Musicians in the United Kingdom.

As a Music undergraduate at the University of Southampton (UK), Joanne studied with Sylvia Bowden.  She has toured Europe and appeared at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland with the University of Southampton’s Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, and has helped to organise nationwide charity concerts for UNICEF UK. Thereafter, Joanne obtained her MA in Music from the University of York (UK) where she was actively involved in community music projects, bringing music to schools, disabled people’s homes and elderly centres.

Upon her return to Hong Kong, Joanne has attained the Diploma in Education (Hons.) from the University of Hong Kong winning the Rowell Prize in Education in the same year.  She has served her alma mater, Diocesan Girls’ School, as teacher in English and Music and has also directed the String Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of Diocesan Girls' Junior School, before she became a freelance musician and educator. She has kept up her love of ballet, obtaining her Diploma Level 4 from the Royal Academy of Dancing with distinction under the tutelage of Ms Ivy Chung.  Since 2017, Joanne has been a DJ and presenter on the classical channel of Radio Television Hong Kong, Radio 4, and enjoys her time between teaching and freelancing as emcee, DJ, and concert organizer.

In her spare time, Joanne likes to keep up her dancing, as well as to read, cook and travel.  Her mission is to bring music to the lives of others through different channels.
